Bishop Wilford E Banks Sr. is the son of the late Henry Gather Banks and Caroline Banks Commander. He was born and raised in Elizabeth City North Carolina and later moved to Newport News, Virginia.

Bishop Banks met his wife, Mother Debbie Banks on March 22,1984. She invited him to The Way of The Cross Church in Newport News, presently known as Living Waters Redeemed Apostolic Church of Christ. He was baptized in Jesus' name in August that same year and filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost on May 24,1985. On August 31, 1985, Bishop Banks and Debbie Banks were married. They were blessed with three beautiful children: Gwendolyn, Wilford Jr., and Travis, all of whom have been baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the Holy Ghost.

Bishop Banks was ordained a Deacon in August of 1992. He accepted his call into the ministry in 1998 and preached his first message under the leadership of the late Bishop James C. Jackson. Inspired by Bishop Jackson, Bishop Banks took biblical courses and graduated from Word of Faith Christian College and Logos Graduate School on May 7, 2003, with a Master of Biblical Studies Degree. He was elected Valedictorian of his class.

In 2007, under the leadership of Bishop Jackson, Bishop Banks became the pastor of Jackson Memorial Redeemed Apostolic Church of Christ where he served faithfully for 13 years. On December 5, 2020, he was ordained as a Bishop and December 15, 2020, he founded Abundant Life Apostolic Church of Christ, where he now serves as pastor. He instills the same teaching that he received from the late Bishop James Jackson into the congregation at Abundant Life.
